The AI detection debate: more is not always better

Bottom line: buy for the long haul, not the first month

I have mixed feelings about the smart home market. On one hand, the innovation is genuinely impressive. On the other, so many products are designed to generate recurring revenue rather than deliver lasting value.

eufy isn't perfect—no brand is. I've seen units with firmware bugs that needed patches. But its fundamental architecture—local storage, no subscription, edge AI—is designed to prevent the most common pain points: privacy leaks, service shutdowns, and hidden costs.

That 12-point checklist I mentioned earlier? The first item is always: “Does the product work as advertised without an active internet connection?” For eufy, the answer is almost always yes. For most competitors, it's a “well, kind of.” And that's the difference between prevention and cure.

So if you're in the market for a smart home system, don't just compare the camera specs. Compare the ownership model. Because in my experience, the purchase price is just the beginning of the cost—or it can be the end of it. Prevention isn't just cheaper—it's the only way to build a smart home you can actually trust.
