eufy E30 vs S340: Why I Chose the More Expensive Model for Our Office

By Greta Lindholm

I manage purchasing for a 140-person law firm. That means I approve equipment and facilities orders - roughly $90,000 a year across eight vendors. When we needed to upgrade the front entrance security setup, the eufy E30 vs eufy S340 comparison landed on my desk.

For a week, I assumed we would buy the E30. It was cheaper. It looked like it could do the job. Finance would not push back. Then I looked at our actual deadline, not just the specs.

I think the eufy E30 vs S340 decision is not a features decision. It is a certainty decision. In an office, the cost of a product that misses its deadline is almost always higher than the price of the product that doesn't.

I learned that lesson the hard way

In 2021, I found a new supplier for maintenance supplies at a price 25% below our regular vendor. I ordered enough to cover us for a quarter. Then the supplier could not produce a proper invoice - just a handwritten receipt. Finance rejected the expense report, and the cost came out of my department budget. $2,400. The supplies were fine. The process wasn't.

Now I ask one question before any purchase: if this option fails, what do I lose? That question changes how the E30 vs S340 spreadsheet looks.

The decision was about time, not tech specs

I won't rehash every E30 and S340 spec. Eufy's product pages already do that. The deciding factor for us was the date we needed the front entrance secured. A building owner's security review was scheduled, and our installer had limited availability.

The cheaper E30 route could be ordered. But the delivery date was probably before the review, not guaranteed. The S340 route came from a vendor who could commit to an install window. The extra cost bought a guarantee. Not just faster shipping. A commitment.

Why does that matter? Because if we missed the deadline, we would pay for another installer visit, reschedule the electrician, and explain to operations why the front entrance wasn't ready. That cost would be bigger than any price difference between the two models.

The hidden line item: Wi-Fi setup

One reason eufy stayed on the shortlist is the no-monthly-fee positioning. Their official product pages stress local storage instead of a subscription. For an office budget, that already removes a recurring line item.

The part I did not expect was setup. If you search for “how to connect eufy doorbell to wifi”, you'll find support articles and videos that make it look simple. At home, it often is. In an office, the front door might be far from the router, with walls that kill the signal. That isn't a problem you can solve by comparing spec sheets. It becomes your problem after the box arrives.

I'm not pretending the S340 is magically immune to network issues. But the S340 side of this project came with people who had installed it before. That support is part of what I paid for. If we had gone with the lower-cost model and nobody on the vendor team had installed it, I would be the support team.

The objection I keep hearing

Some people will say I fell for an upsell. I get it. In procurement, budget is budget. But finance is also the first group to remind you that the cheapest quote on a project often ends up in change orders. I've lived that. The price on the purchase order is not the final price when the product arrives late, can't connect, or drains someone's time.

And I do not mean this as a criticism of the E30. If our context were different - if the front door was closer to the router, if there was no audit date, and if someone at the office could handle the setup - the E30 might have been the smart choice. A residential buyer should probably save the money. That's not wishy-washy. That's context.

Even after I approved the S340, I kept second-guessing. I hit submit and asked myself whether I had just spent extra money on confidence. I did not relax until the installation was finished and the first notification came through while I was standing in the lobby. That was the signal I needed.

So would I make the same decision again? Yes.

The eufy E30 vs S340 question is really about what you are buying. You can buy the lowest price and hope. Or you can buy a device, an installation date, and a support path that removes the hope. For our office, certainty was worth the extra money. It usually is.
